Color: Caramel
Nose: Salted caramel, cinnamon, and honey suckle.
Palate: Caramel, toasted oak, baking spice, and a hint of smokiness. Drop a couple of cubes in and notes of citrus and honey emerge.
Finish: Smoke and rye spice.
Assessment: Smoke lingers from beginning to end in this offering; it’s the dominant character note, though supported by some mild baking spice, and a bold rye spice aspect. It is definitely mild overall in comparison to its big brother (un-cut unfiltered); It’s a solid 92.5 proof and drinks very smoothly.
It’s a well-crafted blend, balancing mild sweetness with mild spice. The lingering smokiness ties the offering together. Considering the quality of the bourbon, it is a solid value that will ensure I keep one on my shelf year-round. These aren’t too hard to find, but they won’t sit on shelves for very long. Buy one if you see it!
