About the Winemaker: F. Stephen Millier describes his Black Label Series as “made up of incredible wines that stand alone.” The Black Label wines, are vineyard blends released through Nakedwines.com. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes selected for this wine were grown in proprietary vineyards.
Color: Plum
Nose: Red berries, bright cherry, oak, and a touch of smoke.
Taste: Baking spice, bright cherry, mineral notes, and a hint of pie crust. Sustained finish with cinnamon and oak.
Assessment: The bottle describes this wine as “elegant” I couldn’t agree more. I expected a big bold California wine; I found a reserved offering featuring fantastic mineral notes, complimented by bright acidity and silky tannins. The wine is well balanced, has a light to medium body, and offers a velvety mouthfeel.
I believe the winemaker, when stating that “the wine stands alone,” meant that no food is necessary to enjoy it. This might be true, but I think the brightness of the juice alongside the flavor notes make this a perfect choice for Thanksgiving dinner.
