About the Bourbon: Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon is a high rye bourbon coming in at 100 proof. A single barrel bourbon aged 7-9 years.
Nose: Wonderful nose on this one. Citrusy and floral with some hints of cherry and pepper.
Taste: This bourbon is delicate. The flavors appear almost muted at first but seem to open up the deeper you get into a glass. Notes of honey, anise, and licorice.
Finish: Short bright finish with lingering citrus and some bitterness and spice. Enjoyable mix of contrasting flavors.
Assessment: This bourbon smells great. It has unique flavors, overall sweetness and short but enjoyable finish. The bottle has been open now for a few months and it seems to have opened up a little and is showing more depth. Complex and bold yet subtle at the same time. There’s some spice present from the rye and it’s balanced well by the sweet flavors on the front of the palate.
Four Roses Single Barrel is a unique bourbon. Floral and citrus, smooth and subtle. Good for the last pour of the night or a nice changeup.
Buy again? Yes. I’ve definitely enjoyed each pour of this bottle of bourbon. It isn’t as bold or aggressive as others but it is unique and tasty, offering some depth in flavor. This is a bottle that doesn’t get boring.
Four Roses Single Barrel is good bourbon. 87 Points
