About the Winemaker: Bergstrom is one of the best known wineries in Oregon. They consistently release wines that are adored by some of the most respected wine reviewers in the world. They are one of many producers in the Willamette Valley producing world class wines, but they are perhaps the most consistent when it comes to receiving yearly accolades. The wine I am reviewing today was produced with grapes sourced from Shea Vineyard. This vineyard was planted back in 1983 and is a source of grapes to many wineries in the valley. Shea, has been the source of many world class wines.
Color: Crimson
Nose: Cherry, smoke, floral notes, and raisin.
Taste: Smoke, cherry, earth, wild mushrooms and soft dried herbs.
Assessment: This is a medium to full bodied Pinot Noir. Bergstrom’s 2013 Shea Vineyard Pinot is blessed with the smokey and earthy vocanic goodness that comes from the Willamette Valley terroir. This vintage is however bigger and bolder than what is typical of a Pinot Noir from the region. It is quite fruit forward with notes of well ripened cherry. The wine is well balanced with reserved tannins and acidity. Drink now.
Bergstrom Winery’s 2013 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir is a very good wine. 91 points.
Pairing recommendation: Roasted leg of lamb or prime rib.
