About the Bourbon:
Lux Row’s Distiller’s Collection Label is a line of single barrel offerings. The bottle I’m reviewing today was hand picked by Binny’s Beverage Depot. Rebel Yell is a corn heavy and wheated bourbon, that is considered by many to be a diamond in the rough with value exceeding price.

I enjoyed the whiskey for this review using a set of Prestige diamond whiskey glasses.

Color: Deep Amber

Nose:  Cinnamon, soft dried fruit, tea leaves, and walnut.

Palate: Oak, earth, milk chocolate, brown sugar, and raisin. Drop a couple of cubes in a notes of lemon cream, and cherry taffy emerge.

Finish:  Leather, corn dust, and raw cinnamon.

Assessment: This bourbon is young at around 4 years old – and it shows. It’s spicy, hot, and lacking the softness that I would expect with a wheated bourbon. I am however really enjoying the slight sweetness from that comes from the corn, and a fantastic creaminess that emerges, when mixed with a bit of ice.

At a $30 price tag,  I’ll buy a bottle of this every time it hits the shelf, but it could really have been something special with a couple more years in the barrel.

If you are considering venturing from classic bourbon and trying a finished bourbon, Angels Envy is a great place to start. The Barrel Cellar gives Lux Row’s Rebel Yell Distiller’s Collection 87 points.
