About the Winemaker: Abbadia Ardenga winery is a historic place in Tuscany. The property sits on a road long traveled by merchants, armies, and countless other travelers on their way to or from Rome. The deep and pure well on the land undoubtably was a welcome sight along that long road and continues to be a valuable resource. The property once belonged to a powerful family whose members included Pope Pius II. I visited this property on two separate occasions. The property is beautiful with rolling hills, vineyards, and charm unique to Tuscany.
Color: Crimson
Nose: Cherry, smoke, and oak
Taste: Cherry, dried herbs, earth, tobacco and oak Finish: tea leaves
Assessment: Medium bodied and dry. I love Brunello di Montalcino for its reserved acidity, bold tannins, and strong character. This release doesn’t disappoint. While I’ve never had a Brunello I didn’t like, this is a well-made and enjoyable wine that offers little I can complain about. Will continue to evolve with further aging, but ready to decant and drink now.
Pairing recommendation: Aged Cheese, grilled or cured meats.
Abbadia Ardenga Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2012 is an exceptional wine. 92 points
