About the Bourbon: Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is a single barrel offering from Wild Turkey Distilling. Kentucky spirit has been granted many awards with the most recent being a gold medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The bottle I’m reviewing today was a single barrel pick, aged in warehouse E.
I enjoyed the whiskey for this review using a set of Prestige diamond whiskey glasses.
Nose: Ethanol, tea leaves, oak, cherrywood, and cedar .
Palate: Mint, sweet tea, peaches and cream, buttered corn bread, and orange zest. Drop a couple of cubes in and notes of caramel, wintergreen, and vanilla emerge.
Finish: Sustained with notes of honey, oak, and lots of spice (pepper and rye).
Assessment: As a single barrel offering, no two batches of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit will be exactly alike. The bottle I’m reviewing today is rich, full bodied, and decadent. It’s creamy, buttery, and has various sweet notes intermingling on the palate. I particularly enjoyed the contrast between a buttery aspect the corn in the mash bill offers and the plentiful spiciness (particularly wintergreen) the rye spice and oak bring to the mix.
If there is one thing you can depend on in the bourbon world, it’s the quality of bourbon the Russell family produces. This is no exception, although the pricepoint may be just a little too high when compared to other bottles in the price range.
The Barrel Cellar gives Wild TurkeyKentucky Spirit 90 points.
