About the Bourbon: Eagle Rare is made from the same whiskey as Buffalo Trace, aged 10 years where BT is aged 8. This bourbon comes from their low-rye Mashbill #1. The bottle is adorned with an Eagle and Stars.
Color: Golden Amber
Nose: Vanilla and honey on the nose. Smells sweet and smells delicious.
Taste: Cherries, vanilla, honey, sweet corn and caramel.
Finish: Short but pleasant finish. Same sweet flavors of caramel and vanilla and some notes of chocolate.
Assessment:
Buffalo Trace Distilling’s Eagle Rare is a step up from their regular offering. Aged 10 years, Eagle Rare embodies the flavor profile of Buffalo Trace with additional complexity from more time in the barrel. This is a good, easy drinking bourbon with classic dessert flavors.
Repeat Buy ? Yes. This is just good bourbon that I would drink any day. Compared side by side with Buffalo Trace, both are enjoyable bourbons but one doesn’t necessarily edge out the other significantly. This is a bottle that I would definitely buy again.
Eagle Rare is a good bourbon. 88 points.
