About the Bourbon: Stephen Beam and his family, building on 7 generations of family distilling history, founded Limestone Branch Distillery in 2010. While Yellowstone Select Kentucky straight Bourbon Whiskey has been around for more than a century, Limestone has only owned the label since 2015. This blend of sourced 4 and 7 year old Rye based Barrels is both a celebration of Yellowstone National Park and a restoration of the Yellowstone brand of Bourbon.
I enjoyed the bourbon for this review using a Prestige Diamond whiskey glass.
Color: Caramel
Nose: Cinnamon, sugar cookie dough
Taste: Leather, tobacco, cinnamon, and hints of lemon zest (neat). Drop a couple of cubes in and flavors of toffee, fresh orange pulp and black pepper emerge. Slightly oily texture.
Assessment: Yellowstone Select is bold and spicy. There is a plethora of strong character notes. The mix of spice and citrus make this an offering that leaves an impression on the palate. For what this bourbon offers in strength in character it lacks in flair. While it’s enjoyable, there just isn’t anything that sets it apart from other bourbons in a quickly expanding market and at $40 dollars a bottle there are far more interesting options available to those shopping in this price range.
Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon is good. 86 Points
