Distiller: Knob Creek Distilling Company
Release: 2019
Bourbon: Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve
Region: Clermont, Kentucky
Price: $49
Proof: 120
Age: 9 years
The Barrel Cellar Score: 92
Review Date: 5/30/2019
Color: Rust
Nose: Caramel, roasted dates, cocoa nibs, tea leaves
Taste: Full bodied, buttery mouthfeel. First taste (poured neat): black pepper, cinnamon, and dried herbs. Drop a couple of ice cubes in your glass and tastes of cherry wood emerge, also honey and mild fruit and citrus notes, oak and corn mash.
Assessment: This high proof bourbon is hot out of the bottle. All the flavor is tightly wound and hits your palate hard, smoothed only by the buttery mouthfeel. After some time to breathe it opens up nicely with a variety of spice and fruit notes. I’ve always been impressed with Knob Creek bourbons especially considering the price point. The single barrel reserve is no exception. Finding a bourbon of this quality and age at this price point is becoming a more difficult feat. It’s a bang for your buck and a bang for your palate.
Knob Creek Single barrel Reserve bourbon is an exceptional bourbon. 92 Points
