About the Bourbon:
- Color: Rich Maple
- Nose: Chocolate-covered cherries, cherry cola, rye spice.
- Palate: Milk chocolate, graham crackers, toasted marshmallow, cayenne, and rye spice. Drop an ice cube in, and notes of sweet vanilla creme, eucalyptus, and fresh mint emerge.
- Finish: Cherry wood, oak, crabapple, and black pepper.
Assessment: Old Pepper Rye is an easy drinker. It’s smooth in both texture and flavor, boasting plentiful sweet notes and a fantastic creamy nature. While it may not be the bold, spicy rye some seek, it remains a pleasant drinker with a complex character. My first Larceny Barrel Proof (batch c921) was a winner, and I eagerly await the next barrel proof Old Pepper offering I come across.. The Barrel Cellar awards it 92 points.
