About the Bourbon: Blue Note Straight Bourbon Whiskey was distilled in Kentucky (unknown source) and aged/bottled in Memphis Tennessee. While there is no age statement on the bottle, it is reportedly aged a minimum of 3 years. This distillate was produced from 70 % Corn, 21% Rye, and 9% malted barley. The bourbon is uncut but blended from a mix of bottles aged in their Memphis facility.
I enjoyed the whiskey for this review using a Glencairn.
Color: Golden Amber
Nose: Honey, graham cracker, and toasted sugar.
Palate: Oak, toasted brown sugar, black pepper, and dried apricot. Drop a couple cubes in and notes of orange citrus and dried herbs emerge.
Finish: Pear, cayenne, and vanilla
My bottle of Blue Note Juke Joint Whiskey is a high proof, uncut, selection. It’s a full bodied offering with a thick, oily mouthfeel, plentiful sweet notes, and a big warm “Kentucky Hug” on the back end. My favorite part about the pour is a concentrated pear note on the finish that is quite unique to a bourbon.
How does Blue Note compare to an ever-growing list of new bourbons on the market? At approximately $50 a bottle, it is worth a spot on your whiskey shelf. It manages to drink beyond its age (minimum 3 years), with plentiful sweet notes, infused vanilla (oak) notes, and a smooth texture. I’d go as far as to say the concentrated pear note even sets it apart from some of the competition. It’s an absolute buy.
The Barrel Cellar gives Blue Note Straight Bourbon Whiskey 89 points.
